Raised in Chicago, Ash was heavily influenced by her Scandinavian heritage which harnessed her love for design, fashion & film. She was raised under the guidance of the Finnish concept ‘Sisu.’ Often used to express the Finnish character, this phrase is equivalent to the concept of “guts” or “grit” in English and American culture. However, this approach to life, and work, is much greater than the translation can dispel. A strength of will, stoic determination, and rationality in the face of adversity all symbolize this concept. Sisu is not momentary courage, but the ability to sustain that courage against any and all obstacles. This principle has been a guiding light to Ash as she approaches every project, and any opportunity to collaborate, with great intention, focus and care. Her passion to create is driven by this stoic determination and conjunctionally joined by her joy for people, art and life.
